Nick Davis reports from Graded Meeting 8

The Dublin Graded Meetings series ended with a hugely successful Distance Medley Relay the first running of this event in Ireland. The relay consisted of four athletes running 800, 400, 1200 and 1600 meter legs with teams to include at least one woman. Seventeen teams competed some attracted by the prize money of €600 kindly sponsored by Citytrain  Health and Fitness. Ennis Track got away to a good start with Dara Lynch on the 800 leg giving them a lead which was enhanced by Niamh Markham's second leg of 400 meters. Raheny, Rathfarnham, Liffey Valley and Sportsworld were busy chasing the Clare team. Damian Landers ran the 1200 3rd. leg for a now extended lead for the Ennis squad with David Rooney in action for Raheny trying to make inroads into the gap. Once steeplechase champion Rory Chesser came onto the track for the final 1600 stint the destination of the winning prize money was never in doubt and just over 14 seconds separated them from the chasing Raheny squad with Rathfarnham holding on to third.

Relays are a great way to finish a track and field competition and hopefully the enthusiasm shown for this relay can be built on next season.

The other events on the programme were well supported as usual with Sarah Murray continuing her dominance of the women's sprints winning the 200 in 25.29s ahead of Szenana Bechtina.  Eoin Doherty won the men's equivalent in 22.81s. ahead of Christopher Sibanda.  North Down's Rachel Gibson had the best finish in the women's 800 clocking 2.11.89 ahead of Claire Earls with Niamh Donnelly running faster than ever with a p.b. of 2.13.21. In the other women's race Niamh Quinn of Portlaoise shared the same time DCH's Sinead Cronin but got the verdict after a great battle down the finish straight.  James Ledingham was the fastest of the men in action winning in 1.52.69 ahead of Cormac Kelly.

With up to 2000 athletes from all over the country in action the Dublin Graded's continues to be the most comprehensive track and field competition in the country. Affording athletes of all standards an opportunity to compete and develop their potential.

Nick Davis reports from Graded Meeting 7

Over 200 athletes competed in the penultimate meeting of the Graded Series at Morton Stadium. Competitors travelling from all over the country to compete in what is arguably the most comprehensive track and field competition in the country.

Sarah Murray continued her good form winning the 100 metres in 12.08s ahead of Claire Brady with Catherine McManus third. Patrick O'Connor of Clonliffe was the fastest in the men's 100 winning in 11.27s into a head wind. Menapians Conor Wilson won a 100mtrs in 11.47s and came back on to the track later to win the "B" 400 in 51.40s. David McCarthy moved down to more familiar territory and won the 400mtrs in 48.73 whilst Cathal O'Cleirigh of Raheny looked like a man who will run faster clocking 50.88s in a "B" race. Emma Kelly just edged out Mary Horgan to win a 400 mtrs. in 59.78 to the Crusaders woman's 59.97.

A total of 28 women competed in the two 1500 metres races. DCH's Niamh Donnelly looked very smooth as she won  in 4.35.71s with Denise Toner from Clones A C.   moving through in the last 150 to take second in 4.39.88s..  DSD's Rick Nally took the field along in  the fastest of the two "A"races  but it was Donore's  Daragh Fitzgibbon who had the best kick down the home straight to win in 3.59.06 with Conor Duffy  coming through strongly for second edging out Clonliffe's Cathal Doyle. Fergus McCormack got the verdict  in a "B" 1500  but could not be separated on time from Mullingar's Paddy Kelly.

No pacemakers in the ten 1500 metres races just honest to god racing!
