DUBLIN CLUBS AT ECCC

Seven Irish club teams were competing at the European Club Champions Cross-Country Championships, in Albufeira, Portugal on Sunday (February 24). SAmong them Clonliffe Harriers,  Dublin City Harriers and Rathfarnham WSAF AC. In the women’s senior race, run over 9.28km, national champions Dublin City Harriers were led home by Cliona Murphy in 39th place. Next was Edel Monaghan 41st,  followed by Orla Duffy. Dundrum South Dublin, second behind DCH at the All Ireland Championships, didn’t send a team. For Clonliffe Harriers, Sean Cronin finished a fighting17th  in the men’s U20 race, with Matei Ursachi 34th, Tom Breslin 56th and  Cillian Keegan 65th. The team placed 13th. A Dublin City Harriers quartet made up of Pierre Murchan, Claire Rafter, Faye Dervan and Philip Marron finished eighth in the mixed relay ( 4 x 1500m). Two places behind in tenth place was Rathfarnham WSAF, with the team made up of Mitchell Byrne, Edel McCreery, David Scanlon and Zoe Richie. Members of all these clubs also ran in the open races. 

Irish team results - 

Women - Senior: 11 Dublin City Harriers 125 pts. U20: 9 Youghal AC 89; 10 Kilkenny City Harriers 93. Men - Senior: 17 Kilkenny City Harriers 155; 18 North Belfast Harriers 162. U20: 9 Lagan Valley 72; 134 Clonliffe Harriers 107. 

DUBS DOMINATE AT DULEEK!

Dublin raiders dominated the Duleek and District 5km in Co Meath on Sunday 25th Feb.. Kevin Donagher (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) won the race in 15 mins 49 secs;  Daragh Keegan (Donore Harriers) was second in 15:57 and Cillian O’Leary (Raheny Shamrock AC) fourth and first M40 in 16.23. First woman was Laura McDonnell (Rathfarnham WSAF AC) in 18.03.

Clonliffe Harriers took the women’s team prize (pic from Clonliffe Harriers) and finished second in the men’s competition. 

At the Kinsale 10-Mile in Co Cork, Sergiu Ciobanu (Clonliffe Harriers, M40) finished third in 52:39.
